Meet art therapist Kate

hello, I’m Kate

I often have the feeling that my life has led me exactly to this moment……I suspect this happens as we grow older and there’s more of one’s life behind than ahead!

I’ve been working with healing and art for a long time now.

Initially I focused on supporting others as they recovered from illness, surgery, injury, and sometimes supporting them through treatments that sadly didn’t lead to their recovery. This work as a nurse was very much about doing stuff to people to help them heal. It was busy, institutionalised, clinically efficient and sometimes effective.

Then I experienced a really tough couple of years with several significant losses.

Grief had its way with me.

I had babies, my family grew.

Life was full and wonderful in so many ways, but the backdrop of grief and anxiety remained.

I sought refuge in art. I went to courses and workshops, joined choirs and sang,  and I eventually found a wonderful art therapist who introduced me to the power of art therapy. I found a conscious release for some of the heartache and stress I carried inside. I gained clarity, new perspectives about myself, my life and the world. I began to make different choices and created more joy in my life. What a revelation it was and continues to be!

It seemed to me a natural step to take to begin exploring and studying art as a healing tool. And so I embarked on a 14 year journey of learning about, and experiencing, the therapeutic uses of art and creative expression …of course the learning and experiencing will never end! Like all of us, I am a work in progress!!

What I bring with me to this work is a lifetime of being human, an ongoing curiosity of what it is to be human and a desire to ease suffering and create harmony.

I welcome the opportunity to share this work with you.

To accompany, guide and support you in times of need.

To help you find your healing path toward joy and wholeness.

Kate supports Hobart Women’s Shelter, providing safety to women and children affected by family violence and/or homelessness, so they too can find their own path. If you would like to make a donation to the Hobart Women’s Shelter please visit their website.

‘This being human is a guest house.

Every morning a new arrival…

Welcome and entertain them all!…

Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.’
